MusicNotes: From the desk of Jennifer Henning
Fall 2026
I think the expression is "It's been a minute"! While it has been quite
a while since I updated my website, Henning Music has been alive
and well with students learning more and more about music and playing
the piano! The time has come to fill you in on all the details.
The Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs held its Junior
Festivals in March 2025. The North Shore district was able to secure
Concordia University-Wisconsin as its venue. WFMC held its
State Festival at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center.
Most of my students performed
in the District Fesitval and quite a few chose to also perform at the
State Festival. My students performed in the Piano Solo
and Music Theory categories and the majority of them
earned the highest rating (Superior) for their efforts. Six students
received Honorable Mention awards at the state festival.
The Wisconsin School Music Association held
festivals in Spring of 2022. Several of my public
Middle and High School students took part in these contests.
Most of my students earned First Division
ratings at the District level. They played in
the Piano Solo and Non-Improvisational Jazz Piano Solo categories.
We had three in-person recitals last season.
The first of these was an informal December Piano Party at my home.
Students were able to choose either holiday music or their favorite songs
to play for family and friends as they enjoyed some seasonal refreshments.
The next was
just before the 2025 Federation District Festival, and the
third was in June of 2026. There's nothing like performing live
for family and friends (and the punch and cookies at the post-
recital reception aren't bad either!).
Quite a few students continued their lessons through the Summer, and
are now being joined by more students as the Fall season has arrieved.
Some students have begun the process of choosing contest music for
the 2027 festivals while others are making progress in their method
books and other music that interests them.
I think that covers all the news.
All the best to students and families. Looking forward to seeing
you at lessons
this Fall. I do have openings for new students, and if you
know anyone who is interested, please share my information with
them. Thank you.
